The best scones this side of the Pond! A bold statement for any tearoom, but we have it on good authority.
Not long ago we had a customer in from England. I was bragging to him that we made the best scones this side of the pond. He quickly commented back that he would be the judge of that. Then proceeded to inform me the the was a retired scone maker with over 30 years experience. He enjoyed his meal and then I delivered our traditional sweet vanilla scone with clotted cream and jam and anxiously awaited his verdict.
After he cleaned his plate, every crumb I might add, I made my way back to the table to collect his plate. I was eager to hear his verdict. He announced boldly that our scone was indeed the best scone he had eaten this side of the pond. He continued to sing our praises. I informed him that I would tell the story of his praise and continue to proclaim boldly that we do indeed have the best scones this side of the pond.
